Travelling
to Thailand has been a long term dream of mine for a while, and one that I see
becoming reality in the next 2 years. I planned this trip for May 2016, which
would be when we are out of school, giving us 3 weeks of exploring South
East Asia before settling into our summer jobs (for the next 3 months.. blahh.) Ever
since I was little, my 3 best friends and I have dreamt of going backpacking
together, staying in hostels, meeting cute boys, and soaking in the local
cultures (thanks Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants!!) This trip
would be the 4 of us traveling around together for the whole time, and hopefully
meeting others along the way. We
would definitely be backpacking throughout the 3-week duration definitely putting some of us out of our comfort zones. Catching ferry
boats every couple days, staying in cheap hostels and making decisions on the
go, is something that you can not effectively do with 2 roller suitcases each. This
trip is an opportunity to show myself that I am a true explorer and do not need
a travel agent to schedule every second of my vacation (boring). Being able to culturally
immerse myself in my adventure seeking, brave personality is something I
thrive in doing.
Thailand is a dream location for me because it is so
culturally different than every aspect in my every day life. Being able to hop from Island to
Island, eating local street food, while meeting other young people from all over
the world, makes me itching to travel. The heat of Thailand is another big draw
for me. Coming from Vancouver and going to school in Ontario makes me hate
winter more then anyone else, and I am constantly seeking the sun. I want to
visit temples, help bath sick elephants, take a cooking classes, interact with
the locals and come out of the trip with a stronger notion of who I am, as well
as sense of more independence.
All of this is why I named the blog "Thai Awakening." After this trip I feel that Thailand will have awakened my sense of travelling, independence and spontaneity. I want to have a sense of how people in other parts of the world live their every day lives, and take a 3- week glimpse into the crazy whirlwind of backpacking. Being able to spend that much time with my 3 best friends and experience all these sights and tastes together is exhilarating to me, making us closers and sharing more bonds then when we started. Meeting new people, eating new foods, and taking lots of photos, what more could I ask for after this trip?
Explore on my friends, explore on.
